Every Kitchen Needs "The" Knife

Most home cooks aim for the ideal kitchen, and it usually starts with the kitchen knife.  If you think about it, when you spend your time in the kitchen, playing with all your gadgets-  you usually reach for your go-to knife for most of the cooking activities.  If you have issues with cutting your food and preparation is stalled because of dull cheap knives, then you will never enjoy the true pleasure of cooking and having the ultimate kitchen.

Start with the foundation and the rest will be built upon that.  Having a multi-set knife set is OK, but if you master the cutting skills with your favorite knives, you will probably only need about 3 to 4 knives to get the job done.  I am interested to know what knife readers recommend and have experience with.  Please share your recommendation for "the knife", add your comments and share your thoughts.
