Stop using the garlic press to flip your eggs! Yikes. Are you the cook that seems to always be on the hunt for your kitchen gadgets when cooking? You might have numerous gadgets, cooking gadgets, electronics to help you prepare your meals, but unless they are organized and ready for you to use, you will only feel frustrated and the cooking process will not be as smooth as it should. This post will give you some tips to clear the clutter and to make things more efficient in your kitchen.

  1. Time to get organized: Sounds like a lot of work doesn't it? Well, with a little bit of organization and upkeep of your cooking tools, the time you will save will be payment for time spent organizing your kitchen. The first step is to clear the clutter and organize your drawers, and all storage areas. Don't only focus on the gadgets and electronics, but organize everything. Yes, even the cereal boxes and chip bags. Look for those expired items and get rid of them. I use an office gadget to make labels for each of my food items. I put the date on them and this lets me know when its time to let things go. This works well in the refrigerator as well. You can even go low tech and keep a marker nearby, but be mindful not to mark items that you don't want markings all over. I just think labels are much neater and cleaner.
  2. Categorize your items: Put items that you usually use together...together! It is also much safer to move your knives out of the spoon tray and to keep them separate.
  3. Use Storage Tools, holders and devices: Once you have things organized, make a list of products that could hold these gadgets and cooking tools. For example, you can use kitchen tool holders for your spatulas, mixing spoon etc. in holders. Utilize hooks to hang mugs under shelves and open area. Maximize space on the walls with attachable storage items, this can help save you the valuable counter space. Invest in a nice spice rack to keep your spices in order and within arms reach when cooking up your feast. There are also many products available as add on to your cabinets and shelves that help save space.
  4. Relocate Gadgets that you don't usually use: Have a meat grinder that you only use from time to time or maybe that blender hasn't been spinning for quite some time. Consider making room to store your gadgets that you don't use in another space other than the kitchen. I keep mines in the garage in plastic storage bins until the occasion calls for them.
  5. Get Rid of gadgets you never use: Sell them eBay, give them to friends or recycle them. If you haven't used them in over a year, they are only taking up valuable real estate in your kitchen.
  6. Keep up with your organization! Once you use your gadgets and cooking tools, put them back where they belong. This way you will stay efficient and organized.
  7. Continue looking for ways to save: Search for those unique items that maximizes the space you have. Another option is to buy a bigger house with a larger kitchen, build extra cabinets or build a second kitchen and forget the family room. By being organized you can keep your kitchen space free of clutter, your drawers organized and gadgets ready to do battle with you and keep your kitchen without having to buy a whole new house. No matter what size kitchen you have, you can save a lot of space by just spending a day organizing, planning and making an effort to maximize your kitchen.
