How much money can you save by making your own coffee from home? Well, during our rough economic times, many of us are skipping out on buying our daily coffee fixes from the coffee shops...and you know which ones I am talking about. I crunched some numbers from my own experiences and have provided them below as an example of what you might possibly save by brewing your own coffee versus going to the coffee shop.
In my experience, I purchase my coffee online. I buy different blends from specialty stores online and have averaged out the cost to about $1.25 per cup of coffee. That is including shipping! Now the average cost for a cup of coffee from those popular coffee shops average out to about $3.50 per cup. I have placed a table below to show you the cost savings you can obtain by brewing from home.
In this post, I will also share some useful tips to save money when brewing from home. I used to be a coffee shop junkie, but now that I have made the switch, I save a bundle and the coffee I make is just perfect! With the money I saved, I purchased a few really nice coffee makers, single serve coffee maker for the weekends and other items such as a burr grinder. Crunch the numbers yourself and you will see what I mean- or just take a look at my nifty little table below.
The Table shown below is based on a 5 day work week. So I simply multiplied by five for my weekly calculations. The calculations below show the cost per home brewed cup at $1.25 and Coffee shop at $3.50 per cup. Now, I know there are numerous different situations and variables, but this is just a simple calculation to help demonstrate the cost savings that I have obtained.

Now based on the findings above, since I drink 3 cups per day, I save a whopping $33.75 per five day work week! For those who only drink one cup a day the savings come out to about $11.25 per five day work week. Now multiply this by 4 for a month total... take a look at my table below:

WOW, In one month, I save a total of about $135.00 for brewing my own coffee. Now I multiplied this by 10 since we do take vacations (I hope), and took off about 2 months to calculate for missed coffee drinking days and my the total savings for a year comes out to:
1 Cup per Day Drinkers Save: $450.00
2 Cups per Day Drinkers Save: $900.00
3 Cups per Day Drinkers Save: $1,350.00

Additional Tips to Save on Your Coffee Expenses
- Be good to the environment- Use the reusable filters.
- Instead of using the disposable cups, buy a nice daily travel coffee mug instead.
- Maybe its time to reduce the amount of coffee or tea you consume (like me)
- Use the FREE office coffee maker at work or bring your own set up for the office
- Buy online and Save!
